West Middlebury Cemetery Hauntings

Most Haunted Places in America: West Middlebury Cemetery

Your mother always told you that big things can sometimes come in small packages, and that is definitely the case with West Middlebury Cemetery in West Middlebury, New York. Built in the early 1700s, this cemetery only includes around 100 plots, and those were filled up long ago. Most of the visitors are looking for either a brush with history or a brush with the paranormal.

For most experienced paranormal enthusiasts, this place doesn’t disappoint. For the people seeking visual experiences, West Middlebury seems to have a high concentration of spirit energy that shows up as orbs, rods and webs in photographs. For those who prefer a more auditory experience, many people have recorded clear EVPs in the cemetery.

One such EVP was captured and investigated by WNY Paranormal. They found the spirit of Mary Chaddock, who seems to be connected to a large stone pillar in the back of the boneyard. In the dead of night, she wanders the space between this pillar and her grave, even being caught briefly on camera on more than one occasion. She communicates by physical sensation and EVP, and during the WNY Paranormal investigation she related information through EVP that was corroborated through historical research.

Local mediums have reported the psychic imprint of murder and sounds of gunshots, but this has not been definitively connected to the cemetery. Such things may be the echoes of someone’s last moments, but if so no concrete connection has been made thus far.
