Haunted Places in America: The Stanley Hotel
The Stanley Hotel has been documented as one of the most haunted places in America by numerous people. The hotel is located in Estates Park, Colorado and is not only famous because of the haunting; it is also the famous location that Stephen King found inspiration for his novel, the Shining. From pictures, the hotel looks like something out of a scary movie, but what is even more disturbing are the events that have been known to go on inside the hotel. For movie buffs, the hotel was also used to shoot “The Shining” miniseries that appeared on television.
Stanley, the original owner of the hotel is thought to occupy the corridors and billiard room in the hotel. Mr. Stanley can often be heard playing the piano throughout the hotel. He and his wife were the original owners and builders of the hotel and have apparently never left. Many guests have seen the keys of the piano moving and playing notes, while not seeing anyone even near the piano. This is thought to be the work of Mr. Stanley himself. Although his wife is through to haunt the hotel as well, there have been no actual sightings of her.
The fourth floor of the Stanley hotel seems to have the most activity present. Room 418 is said to be haunted by servants of the past and you can often hear children playing in the hallways. Aside from this there have been many events that have gone unexplained through the haunting of the Stanley hotel. Guests have heard strange noises, seen images and even people that were not there.
Imagine working at the hotel and seeing impressions in beds that no guests have been in for weeks. This is just one of the paranormal things that workers at the hotel have to deal with on a regular basis. Aside from this, there are often noise complaints that come without merit; as no one is sure where these noises are coming from.
There have been many guests at the hotel who have had their picture taken on the grand staircase and have found that they were not alone in the picture. Many guests have experienced orbs or balls of light which are present in their pictures. Although interesting, it has yet to have been determined if the pictures that exist are actually legitimate. There are many websites that allow the users to post pictures of these events and they are definitely worth a look!
If you are a fan of “The Shining” or simply a ghost hunter, then people recommend visiting the Stanley hotel. The Atlantic Paranormal Research group has some interesting footage that was recorded at the hotel; it is absolutely worth taking a look at before you spend the night. If you request a room on the fourth floor than it could very well occur!
