Hacker House Haunted or The Property?

Most Haunted Places in America: The Hacker House

In all intents and purposes, the Hacker House was built in an area of what the Indians had called ‘Chickamauga’ or field of death. Throughout time this area has had mysterious deaths and unexplained mental illness associated with, so it may not necessarily be the house with the paranormal activity, but the land in which the houses stands.

Through the centuries, this land has had its share of death and unexplained phenomenon. From as early as 1752 when a mass grave was found dating back to 1685 with no cause of death determined to the mid 20th century there have been so many unexplained happenings due to this location changing the inhabitants into crazy people.

In 1778, an entire military brigade was lost on a cold stormy night. While shadows were watching the camp from the edge of the woods each man would go out into the field to find out what or who the shadows were, and as each man sees the unseen he disappears and the only thing left is a burnt spot on the ground with his gun and powder bag laying beside it.

This happened to the entire group aside from two individuals, and they say that one man was turned right into a tree rooted to his spot, and when pierced with an arrow you could hear muffled screams and the sap runs out red. The only other survivor was saved by a couple of Indian braves who were trying to warn the soldiers that the field was evil.

The first house built on this property that eventually became the Hacker’s property was owned by Isaac Kellion, who was a landowner and farmer around the year 1862. This is where the Confederate soldiers held their Union prisoners and the area where the surgeon would throw the dead and dying along with any body parts that were amputated.

When the Union troops found the house, they were completely mortified to see the remains that were inside the house and in the cellar. The major ordered for any survivors to be removed and taken to his surgeon and for the house to be burnt. There was still a person or two who was left in the cellar to die and rot with the rest of the corpses, but luckily were found before the house went up in smoke.

There was not activity on the land until 1929 when Johnas Hacker, who was a doctor who tried to cure his afflicted patients with a serum that would bring the dead back to life and then in time will cause a body to combust from the inside out.

Then the next Hacker’s who lived on that property operated a funeral home. Both family members however were trying to create a way to either keep a dying person live longer or to bring the dead back to life. In the end, it caused them both go completely crazy, now whether that is due to what they were doing or the house and the evil that is associated with it, no one really knows for sure.

There are tours of the Hacker House available during certain times of the year, for a slight price, the Enigma Theatre Troop does some strange and unbelievable performances. It is not a place to go for a casual theatrical event, the house is evil and the land is tainted, so check it out at your own risk.
