A Ghosts Perspective – A Ghost Story Part 1 of 3

Fall is here and the nights are creeping in a little faster, the air carries with it a little nip and of course the colors. Elizabeth loves the colors of the fall and as usual is in her bedroom sitting at the window admiring nature’s beauty. A smile crosses her lips as she recalls how she came to be here and all the wonderful things that have happened to her in her life.

It had been many years ago now but seemed like yesterday. She was young and was being courted by her childhood sweetheart, Robert Collins. She recalls how nervous he was asking her dad for permission to marry her, but her biggest memory of that day was the overwhelming feeling of joy. They had plans to move south and set up a business and of course raise a family.

They found a nice 2-story home right outside a small town in North Carolina that sat on about 50 acres, mostly wooded but with a meandering creek running through the back yard. She remembers the first time seeing it and falling in love with the property. Everything seemed to fit just right and they purchased the home that day.

They set up a small hardware store right on the corner of Beulah and S. Main Street downtown and it was quite successful. Funny she thought, she knew their life’s had their ups and downs but looking back now from her favorite spot in the window she can only remember how good life was. They ended up having 5 kids, 3 girls and 2 boys. They are all grown up with families of their own now providing Elizabeth with 14 grandchildren which she adores very much and visits quite often.

This walk down memory lane had come to one of the hardest corners to navigate she has ever faced and one she thought she could never get around. It was a cool fall day much like what it was today. She had gotten up like she did every morning to make sure her husband had a good breakfast in him as he set out to open the store. It was strange he hadn’t come down yet so she went off to see what was taking so long.

As she entered the bedroom there was a slight smile on his face as he still laid there in bed. She recalls him looking so peaceful and so at rest. It was a great last memory to have; Robert had died in his sleep that night of a heart attack. To Elizabeth it seemed her world was over and even today does not like to dwell on that day or the weeks after.

Strangely she seems to not have too many memories after the funeral. It was a trying time for her and though their kids were grown at the time, it was a hard time for everyone. They were a very tight nit loving family and Robert was the head and would be missed very much. It is not like he has gone; Elizabeth can see his influence in each of his children’s families and that makes her feel very happy.

A car door shutting brings Elizabeth back to the present; she recognizes the car as the real estate agent and looks like she has brought someone to look at the house. Without Robert or the kids the house was way too big for just her and having a family rent it would be just the thing for this old house. Elizabeth was excited as she went down the stairs to the door to greet them. As the front door opened, she saw a young couple walk in and hoped this couple would be the one to take the house.

I love the ghost shows on tv but they are all so negative. It’s so refreshing to read about Elizabeth.
