A Paranormal Investigators Encounters

Ghost Eyes would like to thank Nathaniel (Twitter: AStateOf Mind) for sharing some of his stories with us.

I’m a paranormal investigator and during my life I had many weird paranormal experiences, within which there were many ghost encounters. Here are some of my favorite real ghost stories.

Experience in friend’s house.

So I was staying for the night in my friend’s house. She never talked with me about anything weird going on there, it’s a nice, 150-years old house, and I wasn’t really suspecting any paranormal activity. My room was located in remote part of the house; all other family members are sleeping on other parts of the building so I was in some way alone. I went to sleep and because normally it takes me about 30 minutes to fall asleep, I was just lying there.

As it was dark in the room, something weird happened – the temperature dropped and I immediately sense a presence in the room. Even more, a presence of a person standing right beside my bed – I was scared since I was totally unprepared for any paranormal activity. Yet as a paranormal investigator, this experience was not new to me so I just asked the entity to leave me for the night. As I asked, the entity left and I was able to fall asleep.

Next day, as I asked my friend if she ever experienced anything weird in the room I was sleeping in, every family member begun to share their paranormal experiences. That’s where this ghost story ends – few days later I was able to put the spirit at peace by performing a spirit releasement.

Experience with friend’s dad

I never thought that I could literally see a ghost, but since I got this weird ghost story on my own, now I know it’s possible to literally see a ghost flesh and blood. I was attaining a funeral of my friend’s dad. When we were preparing to leave the house and go to the cemetery, I was observing the people around. And then, as I was just looking I saw my friend’s dad – since I knew him for long time, I was able to recognize him. He was standing there, sad and he looked exactly the same as he looked on the hospital bed. Yet when I blinked my eye, he was already gone. This was quite interesting ghost encounter.

Being pushed by a ghost

When I was at one of my paranormal investigations, I knew there is a spirit of an old woman in the house. While other members of my team were talking with the flat owner, I took the opportunity and tried to communicate with the spirit. I closed my eyes, cleared my mind and asked the spirit to contact me. She responded – I saw an old woman with black hair, coming in fast. In just a few seconds, I felt a pain in my chest, and I was literally pushed back by the spirit – she used some weird paranormal force to physically push me. This was a scary yet truly fascinating experience.

Later on, we managed to collect some data with our digital recorders, and I was able to send the spirit away, by performing spirit releasement.

The Seances of a President

Spiritualism – the belief that the disembodied spirits of the dead, surviving in another world, can communicate with the living in this world, especially through mediums. That’s how the Collins English Dictionary defines it. Spiritualism in America took off after the Fox Sisters starting communicating with ghosts with a series of tapping in 1848. Séances were held quite frequent and though many mediums were proven frauds and even Margaret, one of the Fox sisters, declared she was faking it (which she later recanted) spiritualism grew rapidly.

Not only did spiritualism grow it also influenced many high up politicians during some important times in American history. One of those politicians was as high as you can get during one of the most pivotal times, President Abraham Lincoln during the Civil War.

Was Lincoln a spiritualist? That is a pretty big debate, if he was, he never admitted it publically but there some who say he did enjoyed a séance or two in the White House. There are reports that when the subject of Spiritualism came up he would get annoyed and one time claimed, “A simple faith in God is good enough for me, and beyond that I do not concern myself very much” but according to historians, Lincoln did have access to mediums during his terms and Nettie Colburn Maynard wrote a book about her experiences.

I am sure President Lincoln had his reasons for keeping his interest in the spirit world secret but also found it interesting because there are written accounts of him having prophetic dreams. He even had a dream about his own death. It is the meetings with Nettie Colburn Maynard however that would help shape the future of America.
The first known séance that Lincoln was said to attend was in December 1862.

There were at least two witnesses, Colonel S. P. Kase and of course Nettie Colburn Maynard that published accounts of it. It was here, according to Nettie that Lincoln got reassurances the Emancipation Proclamation, which Lincoln was still wavering on, must be done. According to Nellie:

“…I lost all consciousness of my surroundings and passed under control. For more than an hour I was made to talk to him, and I learned from my friends afterward that it was upon matters that he seemed to fully understand, while they comprehended very little until that portion was reached that related to the forthcoming Emancipation Proclamation. He was charged with the utmost solemnity and force of manner not to abate the terms of its issue, and not to delay its enforcement as a law beyond the opening of the year; and he was assured that it was to be the crowning event of his administration and life…”

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle also commented on this meeting that it:

“was one of the most important events in the history of the United States. This spirit message strengthened the President in taking a difficult step to which he was not yet firmly committed.”

In another meeting between Nettie and Lincoln, she warned him that his army was stacking up arms and losing faith. Mass desertion was eminent and he must take the following action to save his army and the hopes that the North would prevail. She told him, again in a trance state, that he must go and visit the troops. Not the officers but the soldiers themselves, in their tents. Listen to their concerns and show that you are interested in their trials and tribulations. Lincoln did this and his army welcomed him and rallied around him.

Of course Nellie warned Lincoln that he would not make it through his second term. This was something Lincoln was already familiar with. Lincoln fully believed that whatever was set in motion could not be changed by mortal man. That fateful night at Ford’s Theatre, the last premonition came true and Lincoln was shot on April 14th, 1865 and died the next day.

So was the Emancipation Proclamation, one of the most important events in American history influenced by a medium and the spiritual world? Did this same medium, Nettie Colburn Maynard, again get advice that rallied the Northern troop’s at the most dire time? According to some… yes. Lincoln himself is said to say of Nettie, “My child, you posses a very singular gift; but that it is a gift from God, I have no doubt. I thank you for coming here tonight.”

Though unknown to many and not something you learn in history class, a lot of people in this country today should also thank Nettie for bring there that night.

A Ghosts Perspective – A Ghost Story Part 2 of 3

Continued from A Ghosts Perspective – A Ghost Story

Though so excited, Elizabeth didn’t want to be a distraction and stayed in the background to not get in the way. She listened as they walked around the downstairs and the couple, Todd and Valerie she learned, where getting more thrilled with every room. Elizabeth learned they were newly married, just like her and Robert so many years ago, and as they walked into the kitchen the new wife was overjoyed as to how big and functional it was because they planned on having a big family.

“Perfect!” Elizabeth thought. Though she badly wanted to say how that kitchen had served thousands of wonderful meals over the years, had allowed for family bonding moments she wouldn’t trade for the world and was indeed perfect, she refrained. It wasn’t the right time she surmised. See, Elizabeth died a few days after Roberts’s funeral of what many people believe was a broken heart.

The young couple continued their tour of the house and each room brought even more excitement building upon itself till they reached the master bedroom. It was that room that really sealed the deal. Valerie even commented how it seemed so peaceful in the room. It was definitely going to be their bedroom. Elizabeth stood in the corner, overcome with emotion, thankful there would be someone in the house that would care for it as much as she did.

Of course there would have to be some understanding regarding the house, it has been Elizabeth’s house for far too many years to count but she was sure they could come to terms. Besides, Elizabeth thought, it would be nice to have someone to share the house with again. She truly hopes this couple would understand she only wants to help and be a part of a family again. She had no intention of being a burden or to scare anyone. The timing has to be just right to make her presence known so not to have a repeat of last time.

The last couple that rented the home was a middle aged couple that worked all the time. They had no family plans and seemed to come together almost by accident everyday for a quick meal in front of the TV and bed just to get up and do their own thing again the next day. Elizabeth didn’t understand and was just trying to explain what the couple was missing by not spending quality time together as well as point out some things that were going bad around the house.

At first she just tried putting stuff back in its place and tiding up while they were at work. Thinking she was being helpful, this seemed to unnerve the couple. At one point even causing a mild argument over why things were moved around. Not wanting to be the cause of stress in the relationship she came to them that night in the bedroom. As she was getting ready to explain she was only trying to help the couple jumped up and ran out the door, movers were there a couple days later and she never saw them again.

No, Elizabeth pondered, this time will be different. She will pick and choose her time and hopefully the young couple will realize she is there as a friend and welcome her into their family. Elizabeth spent the next few days tidying up the old house and sure enough, that weekend the truck arrived and the moving began in earnest. As the couple opened the door they were somewhat shocked as the house looked spotless. They knew the house was vacant for a few months and during their initial walk through, it was a little dirty around the edges.

Given the credit to the real estate agent and making a mental note to thank her, the couple started the hard work of bringing in their stuff. Elizabeth was amused; their “stuff” consisted of a bed and dresser, sofa and mismatched chair, TV and a few kitchen items. Elizabeth fondly remembered her first day as well as her and Robert, newly married didn’t have a lot either. Just like then, the house was much larger than the items that were in it but she knew that it wouldn’t take long to fill it up.

Elizabeth decided to wait a few weeks to let everyone get accustom to their new surroundings before she tried to meet her new house guests. She learned Todd went to work every day at 8 am and Valerie worked part time and was home most of the week. They spent the evening together talking about their day, future plans and just enjoying each other’s company. Being the motherly type however, Elizabeth did help around the house a little but Valerie had figured it was Todd.

As Elizabeth was trying to find the right moment to introduce herself there was an incident one afternoon that changed everything. It was one of those unseasonably warm days that happen in the south occasionally, summer not ready to let go altogether. Valerie was working in the yard and decided to take a bath before Todd came home and she started dinner. She turned on the bath water when the doorbell rang.

It was a neighbor from down the road who had brought her a good ole homemade apple pie for a house warming gift. They got to chatting about the neighborhood and where they were from and Valerie lost track of time a little completely forgetting about the bath water running. She excused herself suddenly and running up the steps she was already bracing for the worst and making back up plans for dinner.

When she got to the bathroom, the water was off. Elizabeth knew how southern neighbors can be chatty and turned the water off right before it was going to spill out the bath. Valerie was left scratching her head and though not really coming up with a logical explanation, was relieved there was no big mess and took her bath.

That night over dinner there was a discussion about the water cutting off and Todd checked it out and figured a changing of the water pressure must have turn the knobs enough to cut off the water. They were old fixtures and a little loose so that was a good enough reason to solve this little mystery and after a comfortable evening they went to bed.
