Conducting A Ghost Hunt

Conducting A Ghost Hunt Investigation

The first thing to remember is to conduct your investigation legally. Have permission to be where you are at the time you are there. If it is a night time investigation, go to the location during the day first to walk the area and get familiar with the surroundings before you return at night. Not all paranormal activity happens at night so stay aware during your initial walk through.

Before you do the initial investigation, find all you can about the history of the haunted place. Look in the library, old newspapers, town histories, long time neighbors, the internet, books and whatever else may help you get a clear picture of the past history of this particular location.

Once you arrive at the location take a few seconds as a group or individually to protect yourself from what may happen during the investigation. Say a little prayer if you are so inclined but it does not have to be a religious act. This is especially helpful if you think there are evil spirits in the area. Ask that no harm be done to you or anyone involved in the current investigation.

Though anytime can produce paranormal activity, the best times seem to be between 9pm and 6am. Make sure you arrive early enough to set up any equipment you may have and designate an area to be your base room. This room should be where there is little or no paranormal activity present. Divide your investigators into teams if possible and designate the area everyone will be in. It will be important that everyone knows where everyone is throughout the investigation.

Do one final walk through the location. Try not to move items or disturb your surroundings. If there are particular objects known to move then mark those objects with a piece of chalk near them. If they do move during your time there, the mark can help determine how much.

Once your investigation officially begins, always log everything that appears out of the ordinary and video tape as much as possible. You never know what will end up being important at the end. Here you may want to entice the ghost to appear, make a noise, move something or whatever. If you get any responses, see if you can get the same response over again.

You should end the investigation within a reasonable amount of time. There is as much to do after the investigation as before so don’t overdo it. Everyone should meet again after the investigation has ended and gather all the evidence collected. Make no conclusion at this time as to what may or may not have happened.

Again take a little time before you leave to tell the spirits to stay and not follow you or anyone else home. Set up a time to get everyone together and go over all the information collected. You will probably want to investigate a second, third or even fourth time if there is any evidence of paranormal activity.
